European PROGRES 2017 Art Competition Begins

European PROGRES development programme has today launched its annual art competition for high school students from 34 municipalities in South East and South West Serbia, on the theme Europe: A Wise Choice. The competition has, with the support of the European Union (EU) and Swiss Government, traditionally been organised for ten consecutive years, with the aim of encouraging creativity among youth in the South of the country.

This year’s theme aims to present the European integration process to youth from the programme municipalities, so they would recognise the numerous opportunities provided to them by the European Union, as well as to encourage them to see themselves as active participants in this process.

The participants of the “Europe: A Wise Choice” are expected to present in a creative and original manner their views of the reasons why European Union is a “wise choice”, both for them as individuals and for Serbia as a whole. So that young people could more easily see the benefits for them on the path of European integration, this year European PROGRES has linked the contest with the Europa Diary – tool for high schools with the purpose to present to students in a fun and informative way all the relevant topics related to the EU. Therefore, authors are expected to use the Diary chapters, each dedicated to one European topic, as guidelines for their works.

Twelve best works, to be selected by a jury of experts, will be published on the pages of the European PROGRES calendar for 2017. The authors of the selected works will be awarded laptops and tablets, as well as mobile phones, while the best school based on the total number and quality of all the works submitted, as well as dedication in the organisation of internal school competition, will be awarded a laptop, projector and additional equipment.

The contest is open until 15 November 2016, and the award ceremony and Calendar promotion will be organised late in December.
