European PROGRES published Calls for Proposals for the design of economic and social infrastructure project documentation and for improving the work of Local Tax Administrations (LTAs). Thirty-four local self-governments in South East and South West Serbia in the Programme area are entitled to apply.
European PROGRES donors, the European Union and the Government of Switzerland, have earmarked 1.78 million EUR to support cities and municipalities in preparing the technical documentation for infrastructure projects in the fields of education, health, utility services and economic development. The local self-governments have to contribute to the implementation of the projects, the value of which may not exceed 50,000 EUR, by co-funding at least 10% of their total value. The Call is open until 16 December 2014.
“Lack of quality project technical documentation is one of the key obstacles to the development of infrastructure in Serbia. This is why it is important that the local self-governments use this opportunity, prepare the technical documentation for the key development projects and thus satisfy the prerequisites for participating in calls for funding construction work,” European PROGRES Programme Manager Graeme Tyndall said.
The Call for Proposals, under which the LTAs will be granted financial aid, will facilitate the improvement and expansion of their registries of tax-payers and their inventorying of property, particularly in the rural areas. The implementation of the projects is to enable the local self-governments to increase their revenues from property tax. The European Union and the Swiss Government allocated 150,000 EUR for this activity. The LSGs are entitled to submit projects worth up to 10,000 EUR. The Call is open until 12 December 2014.
The EU and the Swiss Government have earmarked a total of 24.46 million EUR to support the activities of European PROGRES, a Programme contributing to the sustainable development of South East and South West Serbia. The approved projects are to strengthen the local administrations, create a favourable environment for infrastructural and economic development and improve the implementation of social inclusion and employment policies.
The following local self-governments are covered by the Programme: Novi Pazar, Ivanjica, Nova Varoš, Priboj, Prijepolje, Raška, Sjenica and Tutin in South West Serbia, and Prokuplje, Blace, Žitorađa, Kuršumlija, Leskovac, Bojnik, Vlasotince, Lebane, Medveđa, Crna Trava, Vranje, Bosilegrad, Bujanovac, Vladičin Han, Preševo, Surdulica, Trgovište, Brus, Aleksinac, Gadžin Han, Doljevac, Merošina, Svrljig, Babušnica, Bela Palanka and Knjaževac in South East Serbia.
