The Reception Centre for refugees and migrants in Preševo received today 900 blankets, 700 sets of bed linen and 350 pillows, while last week the Centre received a delivery of ten mesh containers, a water tank and 15 mobile toilets. The items were sent as part of the assistance package worth almost EUR 240,000, which have been provided for the needs of the Preševo Reception Centre by the European Union and the Government of Switzerland, through the development program European PROGRES.
The delivered supplies will help the Centre to take care of the most vulnerable refugees and to fulfil the basic hygienic and sanitary conditions necessary for the reception of people, such as waste disposal and water supply. The needs have been identified in cooperation with the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs and the Commissariat for Refugees.
As part of the same assistance package, the European Union and the Government of Switzerland secured funds through the European PROGRES for the purchase of a waste collection and disposal truck, whose delivery will enable the local utility company to improve the maintenance of cleanliness at the Centre for Refugees, as well as to maintain a satisfactory level of cleanliness in the city.
Providing support through European PROGRES is only part of the aid which European donors are sending to the Government of Serbia in order to equip it to successfully meet the challenges that emerge as a result of the refugee and migrant crisis.
