The Municipality of Bela Palanka is located in the Pirot District, on the territory of ancient Remesiana, one of the oldest places in the Balkans.
It is a transit town on the shortest highway between Europe and the Middle East - arm "S" of Corridor 10.
The development potential of the Municipality is related primarily to the strengthening of tourism and agriculture.
Prerequisites are in place for the utilization of alternative and renewable energy sources and development of agriculture, with an emphasis on livestock breeding, fruit growing and organic food production, while the opening of the largest plantation of lavender in the country has also given impetus to the cultivation of medicinal and aromatic herbs.
The Municipality has based the development of tourism on its rich cultural and historical heritage, and the vicinity of two protected areas - the Special Nature Reserve Suva planina and the Nature Park Sićevačka klisura (the Sićevac Gorge).
The festival called Days of Banica, which is the Bela Palanka traditional pie, brings together tens of thousands of people each year in August and contributes to the preservation of cultural traditions and development of municipal tourism.
The Spatial Plan of the Municipality defines three industrial zones next to the interchange on Corridor 10 - „Murica 1“, „Murica 2“ and „Balvan“. For the needs of the industrial zone, in 2011 a sewage wastewater collector was built, and the Municipality is preparing a detailed regulation plan of the zone „Murica 2“ and introducing a geographic information system in order to promote investments in locations in the industrial zones near Corridor 10 and the development of a cadastre of underground installations.
