European PROGRES is the largest area based development Programme in Serbia whose objective is to support sustainable development of 34 municipalities in the South East and South West of the country.
Two major donors - the European Union and the Government of Switzerland together with the Government of Serbia provide the funding necessary to reach the set Programme goals.
Implemented by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) and the Department for Contracting and Financing of EU Funded Programmes (CFCU) of the Government of Serbia’s Ministry of Finance, the Programme provides financial, technical and advisory support to the beneficiaries.
European PROGRES focusses on accomplishing four results:
The Programme incorporates good governance principles and gender equality in its activities and will actively work to enhance access to human rights for those who are the most vulnerable and on the margins of society.
European PROGRES respects the national and local ownership over the activities since this is a key prerequisite for sustainability of any action. As a result, the Programmes activities stream out of the existing national policies and are designed to extend the outreach of the Government of Serbia on the local level.
Supporting the municipalities to develop knowledge and skills to strategically plan and achieve sustainable, multi - sectorial development is the main premise of the Programme. This is why our key implementing partners are municipal institutions and organisations. The Programme also cooperates with national institutions, civil society organisations, development organisations and projects, while aiming to make a positive change for the final European PROGRES’ beneficiaries – the people living in the South East and South West Serbia.
The Programme relies on good practices and results from its predecessor, EU PROGRES Programme.
